Sea Turtles
by Richardson Nature Photography
This collection explores the remarkable nesting season of sea turtles. A female emerges from the ocean to lay her eggs on the same sandy beach where she hatched, perhaps returning for the first time after 25 to 30 years. She may repeat this journey every year or two thereafter, for decades. Although much about sea turtles remain unknown, all seven species are classified as threatened or endangered- a reflection of poor stewardship towards our beaches and oceans? I hope my images reveal the quiet strength and extraordinary determination of these marine creatures. And highlight the research being done to save them. All photographs were taken with permission under controlled conditions; photographing nesting sea turtles at night is illegal.
